Bayley came out to cut an in-ring promo after her match with Nikki Cross had been canceled. Bayley asked to be announced the winner by forfeit in an “open challenge” when Asuka came to the ring and it was announced that an impromptu title match would take place.
SmackDown Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Asuka
Asuka hit the hip attack for a near fall. She attempted the Asuka Lock, but Bayley made it to the ropes. Bayley recovered and hit the back Suplex for a near fall. Asuka fought back and hit the Codebreaker on Bayley. Bayley missed a sliding dropkick, and Asuka rocked her with a kick. She followed up with a German Suplex on the floor. Bayley grabbed a chair and hit Asuka for the DQ.
Winner: Asuka (DQ)
As Bayley celebrated her “successful” defense, she was hit from behind with a steel chair by Sasha Banks. Bayley turned things around on Banks – who was still in a neck brace – throwing Banks into the ring and grabbing a steel chair. Banks kicked Bayley’s legs before laying into her with several shots with a kendo stick. Bayley was able to roll out of the ring before Banks could hit her again with a chair, taking her title and retreating.
Thoughts: The match itself was pointless and served no purpose, but the wrestling aspect in those three minutes was fine. The post match attack was more intriguing, so I’m looking forward to see what happens with Bayley and Sasha as the Draft is set to take place in two weeks.
